Visit lookouts and sites of importance to iwi (local tribes) while learning the stories of Kupe, Polynesian navigation, and the deep ancestral ties to the moana (ocean) and whenua (land). Depending on conditions, a guided walk to the sand beach below may be included, where the iconic natural rock arch frames the horizon.

This gentle one-hour return loop leads you under a lush canopy of native forest, where you’ll encounter an ancient 1,200-year-old kauri standing proudly among young regenerating kauri. Along the trail, take in breathtaking ocean views from the Tuck’s Bay lookout and learn about the ecological significance of the kauri and the ongoing efforts to protect these taonga (treasures) for generations to come.

Continue your cultural journey with a hands-on traditional bone carving workshop.
