One-day, return, from Auckland CBD

Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach & Hahei

Journey from central Auckland to the breathtaking eastern Coromandel Peninsula for a full-day adventure that blends geology, culture, and coastal beauty. Travel through rolling farmland and native forest before arriving at some of Aotearoa’s most iconic natural landscapes.

Begin at Hot Water Beach, famous for the natural geothermal springs that rise through the sand. With shovels provided, you can dig your own hot pool and relax in the warmth of the earth beneath your feet — a unique experience connected to the healing properties of wai (water) in Māori culture.

Next, explore the Cathedral Cove Walkway, a must-see coastal trek with panoramic views of the pristine turquoise waters below. Visit lookouts and sites of importance to iwi (local tribes) while learning the stories of Kupe, Polynesian navigation, and the deep ancestral ties to the moana (ocean) and whenua (land). Depending on conditions, a guided walk to the sand beach below may be included, where the iconic natural rock arch frames the horizon.

Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch in Hahei, a charming seaside village known for its white-sand beach, pohutukawa trees, and easy pace of life. Throughout the day, a Māori guide will share kōrero tuku iho (traditional stories), cultural practices, and local knowledge that bring deeper meaning to the stunning environment around you.

This small-group experience ensures plenty of time for photos, connection, and guided insights, a memorable day that captures the beauty and spirit of the Coromandel.

Begin your day exploring the natural beauty of Coromandel with a guided walk through the enchanting Long Bay Kauri Bush. This gentle one-hour return loop leads you under a lush canopy of native forest, where you’ll encounter an ancient 1,200-year-old kauri standing proudly among young regenerating kauri. Along the trail, take in breathtaking ocean views from the Tuck’s Bay lookout and learn about the ecological significance of the kauri and the ongoing efforts to protect these taonga (treasures) for generations to come.

Your completed carving becomes a personal keepsake, a memory of the land, the people, and the stories shared.

Then, relax and rejuvenate at The Lost Spring Hot Pools,  a tropical geothermal oasis inspired by the healing power of wai (water).
